In memory of Harlan Haines. Douglas Chapter lost an icon.

Harlan Haines passed away October 22, 2024. Harlan was born and lived on his family’s forestland on green Valley Rd, in Oakland, his entire 95 years. He then managed, improved, and enlarged the tree farm over time to over 900 acres. Harlan and his wife Lola, DSWA chapter members since 1982, were honored for their exemplary stewardship twice, in 1987 and 2005, as Douglas county’s Tree Farmer of the Year. Harlan served 19 years as the DSWA chapter treasurer. He and Lola, who was the spirited, steadfast, and loving matriarch of the family, were married 74 years before she passed away in 2022.
