The Richards family Barre Forest was the Clackamas Woodland Farmer of the Year 2025. Their story is one of persistence, passion and dedication to forest stewardship. Bret and Sandy Richards acquired ten acres in 2003, four years after it had been harvested and not reforested. Their first challenge was to battle the brush, which was mostly blackberries. They found that they loved planting and growing trees and all the learning in the process. The Richards enjoyed their forest so much that they expanded their ownership, acquiring another forty acres to the east, taking on more planting and brush management. Over the years, they worked with OSU Extension, Clackamas County Farm Forestry Association, Oregon Department of Forestry and National Resources Conservation Services, both on their land and for their community through volunteering. Join us to learn about their experience and celebrate their accomplishments after twenty-three years of work to improve the forest and make a home for their family.
