Join the PNW's foremost madrone expert Marianne Elliott (Washington State University) and ecologist Michael Yadrick to learn all about the west's most striking tree, pacific madrone. Arbutus menziesii also known as madrona or madroño, is the largest flowering tree of the family Ericaceae. The tree is widely recognized as a regional and cultural icon on the West Coast of North America.
This workshop in Roseburg, Oregon, will combine classroom presentations and a walk in a madrone/oak forest. We will discuss madrone 101 and beyond, including but not limited to the tree’s:
Changing geographic range
Climate adaptive capacity
Community ecology
Uses by wildlife and humans
Decline due to diseases and pests
Propagation
Research about the species
Ways to get involved in madrone community science.
Bring your photos and/or samples of madrone problems and we will help you identify them.
