Douglas-fir Decline and Mortality: What's the Risk?Laura Lowrey will describe our Douglas-fir Decline Complex. How did we end up with so many dead and dying Douglas-fir? Where are they dying? Why are they dying? Are they going to keep dying and where do we think that will be? How do we know if trees are dying because of this issue? How can we prioritize the risk of decline and mortality of our Douglas-fir at the landscape, stand and tree level? Can we do anything to keep our Douglas-fir alive?
Laura Lowrey is a Forest Entomologist, with a background in Ecology, Forestry and Forest Health from Michigan State University. She worked as a Forest Health Specialist for four years for NC State Forest Service, where she made many house calls to small and large private woodlots and tried to help landowners keep their trees healthy. She has been working for USFS Forest Health Protection for the last 19 years, 15 of them in the Rockies. Laura lives on a small woodlot of just about 6 acres in Talent and is raising two rowdy boys.
