I'm over here doing a happy dance because I finally have a tour in Newberg, Oregon. I love that our chapter members are willing to share their properties as we learn together.
Dan Upton has been working with Sylvia and Robert Burns on rehabilitating their property and asked them several months ago if they would be willing to host a tour. The date is almost here. The Burns recently finished rocking the road and putting in a parking area. Here is a clip of the email I received from Dan today.
Sylvia will present the history of ownership and a summary of early logging, etc
I’ll present a summary of recent logging and forestry activity, neighbor relations, vineyard actions and some detail on the steep slope slashing/planting program.
I’ll have a small packet of old aerial photography, unit maps and a prescription for controlling Mullen. (it’s a major invasive that thrives in this particular forestry ownership).
Minimum walking…can park just inside the gate and see the sights from there. Folding chairs are a good idea…
We will have refreshments. See you on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
Best regards,
Darcy, YCSWA Chapter President
